At Crime In Mind, we are professionals concerned with the psychological and medical roots of crime. Particular problems are crimes of violence and sexual crimes. Research has been conducted into the causes of crimes such as these but as we all know they are still all too common and much more research is needed to understand and prevent these troubling behaviours.

Adam Lankford, Ph.D., is a professor of criminology and criminal justice at The University of Alabama. He is the author of two books and many peer-reviewed journal articles on various types of criminal behaviour, including mass murder, mass shootings, and terrorism. His research has examined perpetrators' psychological tendencies, mental health problems, suicidal motives, fame-seeking tactics, copycat behaviour, and weapons acquisition-along with the strategies that might be used to prevent their attacks.

Professor of Adolescent Psychiatry, Tampere University, Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology, Finland.Riittakerttu Kaltiala, MD, PhD, BSc, is professor of adolescent psychiatry in Tampere University and chief psychiatrist in the Department of Adolescent Psychiatry in Tampere University Hospital. She is specialist in psychiatry, adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. She is the leader of one of the two nationally centralized adolescent forensic units in Finland since 2003. She has had a major role in developing the treatment approaches of the unit, which she has done in active collaboration with adolescent forensic units across Europe, establishing also continuous scientific evaluation of the unit’s practices. She is actively involved in the European Association for Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry, being a board member in EFCAP /EU since 2005 and the chairperson of EFCAP Finland since 2003. Her scientific work has, in addition to forensic psychiatric topics, focused on adolescent mental health epidemiology and health services research, and since 2011 on gender identity issues. Lecturer in Psychology and Mental Health, Faculty of Biology Medicine and Health, University of Manchester.Dr Sandra Flynn is an experienced researcher in the field of forensic mental health working within the Centre for Mental Health and Safety at the University of Manchester. She contributed extensively to the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health as a Research Fellow and has completed work in this profession for over 20 years. Her research interests include suicide, familial homicide, homicide-suicide and violence by people with mental illness. Her work has centred on improving safety in mental health and criminal justice settings, with a specific focus on suicide prevention.
