Riittakerttu Kaltiala, MD, PhD, BSc, is professor of adolescent psychiatry in Tampere University and chief psychiatrist in the Department of Adolescent Psychiatry in Tampere University Hospital. She is specialist in psychiatry, adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. She is the leader of one of the two nationally centralized adolescent forensic units in Finland since 2003. She has had a major role in developing the treatment approaches of the unit, which she has done in active collaboration with adolescent forensic units across Europe, establishing also continuous scientific evaluation of the unit’s practices. She is actively involved in the European Association for Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry, being a board member in EFCAP /EU since 2005 and the chairperson of EFCAP Finland since 2003. Her scientific work has, in addition to forensic psychiatric topics, focused on adolescent mental health epidemiology and health services research, and since 2011 on gender identity issues.
