Members and friends will be saddened to hear of the death of Dr Tim Kirkpatrick, who led the discussion for our Webinar on research in prisons in February this year.
His own current research – the PROSPECT project (Prevention of suicide behaviour in prison: enhancing access to therapy) involved co-producing an intervention for prisoners feeling suicidal and then a randomised controlled trial of the intervention.
This had been an immense struggle during the pandemic when working in prisons was just not feasible for researchers, but he kept the work alive and it was just beginning to take off.
Dan Pratt, also of Manchester University, will ensue that the work continues. Among many things it will be a lasting memorial to a warm and talented researcher who will be much missed.
